International Conference on the European Pillar of Social Rights and Youth Policies in the EU

The Jean Monnet Center for Excellence “Research on Crucial Issues of European Integration” of the University of Macedonia is co-organizing an International Scientific Conference on “The European Pillar of Social Rights and Youth Policies in the EU”, Wednesday 16 May 17:00, Thursday 17 May at 21:00 at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel (3 Salaminos, Thessaloniki).

The International Conference is co-organized with the Heinrich Böll Stiftung of Greece and the Jean Monnet Chair of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Law School on “European Constitutional Law and Culture” and “EU Social Rights Protection and Comparative Legal Cultures” and the Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Macedonia “EU Budgetary Governance and Audit”.

The conference is funded by the Erasmus + Program, Jean Monnet Action.

The first day of the conference will feature lectures by prominent academics, researchers and professionals in the field of social and political rights as well as European youth issues, in particular for young people Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET).

The welcoming speech will be given by Professor Ilias Kouskouvelis, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts of the University of Macedonia and as well as by the organizers. The Keynote speaker of the conference is Yves Bertoncini, President of the European Movement (Mouvement Européen France), Director of the Jacques Delors Institute “Notre Europe”. The topic the will analyzed is the European Pillar of Social Rights.

During the first session the theme will be EU Youth Policy and funding opportunities for young people and it will be analyzed by Dimitrios Skiadas, Professor of University of the Macedonia and Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Macedonia “EU Budgetary Governance and Audit” and by Sofia Boutsiouki, Lecturer, University of Macedonia.

During the second session the current situation for young people and how they can be changed will be presented by: Nikolaos Papadakis, Professor at the University of Crete, Sue McGuire, Professor of University of Bath (UK) and Vasiliki Karavakou, Associate Professor of the University of Macedonia.

On the second day, a seminar will be held at the University of Macedonia, from 14.00 to 16.00, aiming to deepen the analysis on the topics of the conference and the research approaches of PhD candidates, researchers and postgraduate students. Mr. Yves Bertoncini will begin with the highlights of his talk, followed by a dialogue with participating PhD candidates, researchers and speakers from the conference, as well as Professors from the University of Macedonia and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
